If you are someone who is always on-the-go and does not have time to get to the gym or class to stretch, you are not alone. From working students to busy moms and everyone in between, having a few daily stretches you can do anywhere can help you maintain your range of motion even when you do not have time for a full stretching session or workout.
Daily Stretches You Can Do Anywhere
Consider adding the following daily stretches you can do anywhere to your routine!
To Loosen Your Back Muscles: Forward Fold
Forward Fold is one of many daily stretches you can do anywhere to incorporate into your routine. Whether you are waiting at the bus stop, taking a break at your desk, or stretching in your living room, this is a quick and simple stretch that will enable you to elongate your back body and send a little extra blood to your brain.
To do a Forward Fold, start standing tall with your feet shoulder-width apart. On an inhale, stretch your body tall and stretch your arms up. Then, sweep your arms downward, folding at your waist and reaching your shoulders and head toward the ground. You should feel a stretch in your back and neck. Feel free to keep your body still or find a bit of movement side to side in this position. You might also try grabbing your elbows instead of letting your arms stretch long to add a bit of variation to this pose!
To Stretch Your Arms: Eagle Arms
Eagle arms is a great stretch to do at your desk, while watching television, or any other time of your day where you could use a little extra arm mobility. This pose should give you a nice opening stretch through your shoulders and biceps. Plus, you can do this pose anywhere!
To do Eagle Arms, reach one arm in front of you and make a right angle with your elbow. Next, reach your other arm under your first so your elbows meet in front of your chest. Finally, reach the fingers and palms from your bottom hand to touch your other palm. Take a few breaths in this pose and feel the stretch! Then switch your arms so your other arm is on the bottom. Feel free to take on full eagle pose or do a forward fold with eagle arms if you are looking to add a few layers to this pose.
To Loosen Your Calves: Stair Stretch
No list of daily stretches you can do anywhere is complete without the stair stretch for your calves. A very simple stretch you can do on any stair, curb, or other type of stable ledge, this stretch will help you find length in the backs of your legs and get a great stretch in the backs of your calves.
To do this stretch, stand on a staircase with your heels hanging off the stair and the balls of your feet firmly on the stair. Hold the railing for a bit of extra stability! On an exhale, shift your weight into your heels finding a stretch through the backs of your calves. Feel free to stretch into one calf at a time or alternate legs.
