Hiking is a wonderful focus and destress activity that anyone, of any fitness level, can start doing immediately. If you are an inner-city dweller, getting yourself to the wilderness for a hike may not always be possible, but don’t let this stop you! Let me introduce you to the City Hike. As the name implies, it involves planning a route, and hiking around your city.
City Hike Ideas for Beginners:
- The park hike: Hike to a park that is about a mile away, bask in nature while walking around the park (maybe even have a picnic!), then hike back home.
- The hill hike: Hike to a hill about half a mile away, hike to the top of the hill, enjoy the view, and then hike back home.
- The hungry backpacker hike: Need to pick up some groceries for dinner? Bring an empty backpack with you as you hike to the store, do your shopping with a basket (not a cart), put your purchases in the backpack, and backpack home.
- The college campus hike: Hike to a nearby college campus, mosey around the scenic campus (startle the kids playing hooky in the woods around the college), then hike back home.
