Remember when you were a kid, and running was effortless and everything was one giant game? Well, you’re not a kid anymore, but that doesn’t mean that running can’t be fun again. Running long distances can sometimes be boring, and the idea of a traditional 5K run may not appeal to everyone, so try out one of these themed 5K races! It will give you a good reason to push yourself in training, lose that extra weight, and conquer a new challenge.
Fun 5K Runs in the United States:
- The Mud Run: A mud-infused course with obstacles such as a slip-n-slide, rope swing, “mine field”, and more. This down and dirty 5K run will definitely bring out your inner child.
- The Warrior Dash: A 5K run similar to the Mud Run, but with more intense obstacles (like burning logs) and more bragging rights upon completion. There are age-specific divisions for both men and women, and numerous race locations throughout the county.
- Skirt Chaser: A mix of racing, flirting, and entertainment, this 5K run is organized so that the women have a 3-minute head start, and the men must “catch them if they can”. First three people to cross the finish line (men or women) bring home prizes.
- Run for Your Lives: A 5K run with obstacles and quite possibly the most motivating reason to sprint: Zombies. Ok not real zombies. You can either sign up to be a zombie and chase runners, or sign up to be a runner and try to complete the course…or get eaten.
