A Tale of Two Wolves
Ana has overcome battles with addiction, physical sickness, and eating disorders. She says giving herself space to make positive choices was a driving force behind helping her heal. One story she likes to use as an example, recalls a grandfather telling his grandson a tale of two wolves. Ana describes the story:
“The grandfather said, ‘Grandson, within every person, there are two wolves. One wolf is the good wolf, the Alpha Wolf that takes care of the pack, and teaches the young ones how to hunt and how to care for each other. And then there’s the other wolf, that will eat everything and will tear up the young ones. This is the bad wolf. There is a good wolf and a bad wolf.’ The grandson asks, ‘Which wolf wins?’ The grandfather replies, ‘Grandson, the wolf you feed is the one that wins.'”
For Ana, this story draws parallels to her battle with addiction. “If you feed your addiction, your addiction wins,” she says.
One of the big healing tools for Ana is asking herself questions to keep her focused. “When I’m about to do something, I ask ‘Is this about to brighten or dim my spirit?’ My spirit has a much louder voice than my addiction. When I am in tune with my spirit I can make a warrior’s choice and choose correctly.”
Connecting with Nature
For Ana, maintaining a connection with nature helps brighten her spirit. She believes when we are connected with nature, our individual problems can be put into a different perspective.
“We are all a part of nature. When we lose that connection, it makes us feel out of balance. When we take the time to come back into nature and change our pace, it starts to bring us back into alignment with truth. It brings us back to our authentic self.”
Retrain and Reclaim
Ana recalls a time when she was obsessed with her addictions, and how she overcame that feeling. “Before I was always focusing on ‘Where’s my cigarettes? Where’s my alcohol? Where’s my next fix?’ I was always obsessing over the sickness. Eventually, I turned that obsession into deep focus. Instead of despising the addict within me, I had to retrain my habits and reclaim part of me that I had lost.”
In teaching this approach to others, Ana is able to guide her students into a journey of self-discovery, cleansing, and healing.
“You have star particles in your bones. That’s how magnificent you are – you’re carrying the stars. Part of my work is to help you connect to that level of luminosity.”
