Forrest Gump: Now you wouldn’t believe me if I told you, but I could run like the wind blows. From that day on, if I was going somewhere, I was running!
Working up to your first 5k? Trying to get distance-race ready? Here’s the Forrest Gump-inspired distance running workout.
The Run Forrest, Run! Workout:
Try and complete each mile within the allotted time, with no rests.
|Mile||Mile time||Total running time|
|Cool down jog||As long as you need||–|
This type of running workout is called a ‘progressive run’, named because each mile is supposed to be run progressively (15-30 seconds) faster. This is a great running workout for long-distance runners who have trouble keeping up the pace in the second half of the race, or want to work on finishing strong.
