Time: 45 minutes
Taking a long, relaxing walk can be quite satisfying within itself, but if you are finding your walks to be a bit monotonous, try out one of these fun ideas to enhance your next walk. Go for a 45 minute walk, and try incorporating one of the following activities into your route.
Cody’s Ideas for a Fun Walking Workout:
- A music walk: When was the last time you listened to a new album all the way through, with your complete and undivided attention? A music album is usually 45-60 minutes, so for your next walk, enjoy listening to one the way the artist meant for it to be heard: From beginning to end, no skipping songs.
- A photo walk: Pick a category of something that you take joy in, and that can be found outside during your walk. For example, birds, or clouds, or flowers, or architecture. Bring a camera with you for your next walk and take pictures of items from your category as you see them throughout your walk.
- A meditation walk: This is the ultimate “focus and destress” walk. Find a breathing rhythm that matches your walking pace (for example, inhale for two steps, exhale for two steps), and try to maintain this breathing rhythm for the duration of your walk. Try to keep your mind off of the stresses of life, and instead just focus on your breathing and steps.
- An art walk: For the inner-city walker, most urban cities have a plethora of public artwork in the streets. Be adventurous with your next walk and try and find as much public art as you can. Look for sculptures, interesting landscaping, decorated trash cans, graffiti, or even stickers.
