Wondering how barre workouts can increase your fitness? Here is an intermediate-level barre workout that will definitely get you toned and lookin’ good, just like those ‘Step Up’ dancers (Guys, take note. “Sexiest man in the world” Channing Tatum definitely does ballet).
This Barre Fitness Workout has strength, technique, flexibility, and cardio exercises incorporated into it.
Barre Fitness Workout:
Begin in first position with one hand on the barre, then center your weight on one foot and slide your “open” foot up to the knee in a passe position. From your passe, extend your leg out in front of you, lower it in a controlled movement to tap your big toe on the floor, raise it back up, and return it to passe. Do 15 of these on each leg.
Begin in fifth position, standing away from the barre. Push off your back leg and leap to the side of your front, “open” leg and land with your feet together. From here, bend your knees and jump off both feet straight upwards, as high as you can. Land in fifth position, then repeat by leaping to the opposite side, landing, and doing another jump. Do 20 of this sequence.
High knees and heel kicks:
Stand away from the barre with your feet slightly apart, and your arms held out to the side at shoulder level. For added intensity, hold a dumbbell or small weight in each hand. Begin by running in place with high knees (bring each knee as high and close to your chest as you can) for 1 minute. Next is heel kicks, meaning, run in place and kick your backside with your heels with each step. Alternate between 1 minute of high knees and heel kicks for as long as you can.
This is a stretch that will both increase your flexibility, and upper body strength. Sit in a straddle position with your hands on the floor in front of you. Slowly move your weight forward onto your hands, so that you are both stretching your splits, and supporting your weight on your arms. Hold your center splits for 30 seconds, then repeat with your left leg forward, and your right leg forward.
