Cody’s Jump for Joy and Leg Muscles Barre Workout:
Grande jété: Begin by standing in fifth position, left foot forward. Plié, then spring upwards and sweep your feet upwards to the front and back, then attempt to land in fifth position (or close to it). Do 10 grande jétés with your left leg forward, and 10 with your right leg forward. With enough practice, you will look like you are doing the splits in mid air.
Straddle/Russian leap: Many people will recognize this leap as the “cheerleader” jump. Begin by standing with your feet parallel to each other, a few inches apart. Sink into a deep squat, and then spring upwards, extending both legs out to the side. Land quietly, with your feet in their starting position. Do 2 sets of 10 straddle leaps.
Pike jump: Stand with your feet together, toes facing forward. Bend your knees, then spring upwards and bring your feet up in front of you and attempt to touch your toes before landing. Do 2 sets of 10 jumping toe touches.
Soubresaut in all positions: Begin in first position, plié, and the spring off the ground as high as you can, completely straightening the legs and toes in the air, before landing quietly back in first. Do 2 sets of 10 soubresauts in first, second, third, fourth, and fifth position.
