Cutting junk food out of your diet can be a challenge to many people, and sometimes reaching for an apple instead of cheesecake can be downright impossible. Fortunately, there is always a happy medium to be found. You don’t have to give up your favorite snacks and junk foods, you just have to slightly modify them! Here are five common unhealthy foods, and their healthy counterparts that you can indulge in instead.
FriesSweet potato fries: Traditional fries are loaded with fat and sodium. Instead, drizzle cut-up sweet potatoes with olive oil, basil, and a bit of cheese and bake them in your oven for a snack rich in fiber, and vitamin A and C. Ice CreamFrozen Yogurt: Forego the high calorie, fatty ice cream and instead indulge in frozen yogurt. It tastes the same, but with about half the calories. Potato ChipsPopcorn: Potato chips, like fries, are high in fat and sodium, so reach for a low-sodium, microwavable popcorn instead. Popcorn has fiber and protein, and you can garnish it yourself with a small portion of salt instead. SugarHoney: Refrain from adding unnecessary calories to your otherwise healthy breakfast, fruit, or tea by substituting sugar with honey. Honey also contains trace elements of protein, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. PepperoniVegetable Pizza: Pizza isn’t unhealthy by nature, but what you put on your pizza can tip the scale from healthy to unhealthy. Avoid pizza meats like pepperoni and bacon, and instead go for vegetables, low-fat mozzarella, and a thin crust.
